Arlen Hancock, Fight Choreography Instructor
Arlen Hancock is a recent graduate from the UArts BFA Acting program and has been an avid choreography teacher for four years. He has choreographed fights in projects that range from rapier to light sabers, from classical to the avant garde. Arlen has eight certifications: unarmed, rapier, rapier and dagger, spear, sword and shield, small sword, knife and saber. It is Arlen’s belief that the actor is an athlete. An artist must combine both the creativity and play inherent within them as well as the diligence and discipline
of an athlete. His combat training and teaching are intrinsic to these qualities.
THE STATEMENT:
I am dedicated to creating choreography that is at the
forefront safe, accessible to each actor’s needs as well as filled with specific
intention. As your choreographer I promise to deliver an atmosphere that entices
creativity, provides open dialogue with my students, engenders respect for fight
techniques and safety, and also make stage combat fun rather than intimidating.
I’m a teaching artist that thrives on inspiring the love for what I do in
others. I want your experience with me to be rewarding and enjoyable. I
strive for a finished product that will tell the story while still communicating
authentic violence that’s comfortable with any actor and/or student.
